About The Book

LeFay_HENGE_Cover_byRealmL_lowresTitle: Henge (Le Fay Series)

Author: Realm Lovejoy

Genre: YA Fantasy

Inspired by one of the greatest legends of all time…

Modern-day Camelot. Where knights no longer carry swords. Magic is dangerous. And those who seek control are not to be trusted.

Sixteen-year-old Morgan le Fay is a fire user. An ordinary girl with an extraordinary skill, she has the ability to create and command fire at will. Her dream is to become the Maven—the right hand of the future King Arthur. In the chance of a lifetime, Morgan is selected to join Arthur’s Round, an elite group of young magic users from which the new Maven will be chosen.

Along with the other fire, water, and wind users in Arthur’s Round, Morgan is rigorously trained and tested. The handsome Merlin, a brilliant water user, takes a particular interest in her. Is his friendship to be trusted, or is Merlin simply trying to win the position of Maven for himself? Among the many rivals Morgan faces is the current Maven, Mordred, who seems determined to see her fail.

But Morgan has a secret—years ago, her mother was executed for using fire magic, and Morgan’s desire for justice makes her more than ready to take on the challenge before her. Can she prevail in Camelot’s tests of survival and magic? Only time—and Morgan’s powerful fire—will tell.

Realm Lovejoy’s modern Arthurian series features one of literature’s most complicated and powerful female figures. Henge is the first book in the LE FAY series, and—like Morgan le Fay’s magic—it is sure to dazzle and amaze.

Book Excerpt

I set my phone down and turned to Katy who’d been eating her Cinnabon and listening to my end of the conversation.

“Well? Good news?”

“Yeah, I think so. He said anyone with basic skills, in computers that is, could access the Sleeping Bear database. That it was a very basic system and I should tell the owner it was in serious need of an upgrade. He said the odd thing was he noticed a user profile had accessed through a back end portal a few times when no other user profile had. He said it might mean nothing, but it might also be significant as well.”

“I have no idea what you just said.” Katy said.

“I didn’t either until he explained it. He said the system keeps log every time someone accesses it. So the administrator can see who has been doing what. It’s a basic security measure to track what people are doing online. This specific user has been accessing the server in such a way that doesn’t show up in normal channels, it’s a higher level access. So unless you went in the system like Jim did, you would never know this person had accessed anything. Jim said no one but a programmer, or IT person, or administrator would ever notice. Employees with regular access wouldn’t know about it, and the only reason someone would have to try and access this way would be because they wanted to keep hidden what they were accessing. He said in a company with higher security measures that back door would be locked, so to speak, and you’d have to be really good to get in. But there weren’t any security measures here.”

“So someone has been going into their system, someone who already works there, but doesn’t want anyone to know.”

“Maybe. Someone could have somehow stolen the user information and then used it. But it seems more likely that someone who works at Sleeping Bear is the one doing it. Jim said an outsider would have likely used different methods than an existing user profile.”

“Was Jim able to tell you who it was?”

“No, but I have the user name and the dates the user accessed the system. We just need to find out who it belongs to. I’m sure John would know. Most companies have a master list of each employee’s log in information.”

“Then what are we waiting for?” Katy said.
“I was wondering if we should talk to Jared first?” “He’s still at home, isn’t he?”

“I think so. At least that’s where he said he would be all day. He said he was going to watch mindless TV and have his own little pity party, and the way he looked it sure didn’t seem like he was going to change his attitude anytime soon.”

“Then let’s go give what might be some good news!”

Author Bio

Hello lovers of apocalyptic fiction!

I devour the same books I enjoy writing: science fiction, but especially anything apocalyptic/post-apocalyptic or dystopian. I love stories about regular people being put into extra ordinary circumstances, and having to rely on their own cunning and that of others to survive.

Stone Age & DESOLATION are that kind of story. They’re fast moving, have some regular and amazing characters who must make life changing decisions, all while the world is experiencing an apocalypse unlike anything imagined.

When not writing fiction, my wife and I split time between Tucson, Arizona and the sunny beaches of Mexico. I also write for a few blogs, and I still write articles to assist small business owners for one of the companies I founded,

Book Tours: Book Excerpt from River Card

Book Excerpt

December 26, 1997 ‒ Almost Midnight, the Mirage Poker Room, Las Vegas, Nevada

It really wasn’t about winning money. Playing seven-card stud was what she wanted to do, or so Georgia Cates had been telling herself since the first time she had sat down at a casino poker table. Now, a little less than a quarter-million dollars in chips and paper money lay on the green felt in front of her. She casually riffled a stack of white five-thousand-dollar chips. Never mind that this money was all that was left of the $500,000 she had started with a few hours ago, and never mind that the entire half million was not hers in the first place and that she could go to prison for a very long time.

She had perfected her poker face, and the eight carats of diamond rings on her fingers sparkled, but not because her fingers were trembling. No one could guess that the elegant, perfectly composed woman in the Jil Sander suit was about to throw up. She tried to swallow, but her dry throat convulsed, and she coughed to cover up the gag impulse.

Who was she trying to fool? Herself? A little late for that. She had to win; her survival depended on it.

Chapter 1

June 26, 1998

It was like trying to hurry across a frozen lake in four-inch heels. She forced herself to slow down as she made her way along the marble thoroughfare that spanned the Bellagio Casino.

“I will not slip, I will not fall,” she intoned, very aware of the several curious glances she got. But vocalizing her thoughts, transmitting them via her vocal cords so that the vibrations were sent to her eardrums and the neural message delivered to her brain, validated the reality of her existence. Talking to herself was the only way she knew to keep focused. So what if she was acting loonier than a bag lady?

“Think out loud,” she commanded herself. “I am Georgia Kassov Cates, poised and elegant, strolling along in my perfect clothes, great haircut, makeup subtle but effective. But can they see my lips moving? Do I care?”

Trying to imagine what she must look like on a casino surveillance camera, she concentrated on a nonchalant but brisk stride, doing her best to edit out the throngs of tourists, many with necks craned and fingers pointing. At her? No, of course not. This was Bellagio, and there were thousands of reasons to crane necks and point.

“Who was she trying to fool? Herself? A little late for that. She had to win; her survival depended on it.”

Georgia Kassov Cates is a business woman, a wife, a mother…and a gambling addict. Desperate to recoup a devastating string of losses, she risks it all for one last game- a game that’s abruptly halted when the Las Vegas casino succumbs to a freak blackout.

Georgia meets some fellow patrons of the Las Vegas casino, including the wealthy Melanie Nallis, a woman haunted by her horrific childhood;  Zivah Koski, an enigmatic elderly holocaust survivor; Phillip Vance, a billionaire casino developer; and Milt Braverman, a professional poker player.

As they get to know each other, a connection is slowly revealed: postwar Germany, a time and place that is reflected in” River Card’s novel-within-a-novel, “Alexandra.”

Alternating between the opulence and depravity of 1940s Germany, and the glamor and baseness of 1990s Las Vegas, “River Card” reflects Georgia’s mounting fears-both past and present-as she plays one last hand…

Book Excerpt

Cara—a mystery to me, at best—had just sauntered through the shutter doors. She gave Sierra and Frenchy a head nod. I guessed that was going around this season. Bold island colors were back, and so was the head nod. She walked over to the bar with a slight twitch in her hips. The guys surely liked it. I caught a few eyeing her as she walked by. I caught myself watching people at times. I was beginning to think that how people moved, rather than what they said, told you what they were really about. For a while now, I’d been finding it hard to believe what people said. My father used to say a lot of things that now didn’t mean anything. I didn’t even think he remembered. Maybe Dimitri was right. Maybe I shouldn’t remember so much. Part of why Sierra and Frenchy were my 24/7 was because they were the only two I could trust. Cara? Hmm. I didn’t have an instinct on her yet. The channel was blocked. And her walk was questionable.

Tattoos were always of interest to me. I watched as Cara walked over to the twins. Her star tattoo on her back peaked through her shirt. “Where’s Milan?” Cara asked the twins.

“Somewhere around here. What, you don’t want to hang out with us?” Sierra asked. Frenchy’s eyes searched Cara’s. Then she looked away.

“Want to locate Milan? Why don’t you start with her brother over there?” Frenchy pointed to Dimitri.

Clearly, they were annoyed with her. They wouldn’t sic Dimitri on her unless they wanted to best her. Cara’s eyes lit up. I was starting to feel a little bad. Hopefully she hadn’t fallen for the earring and the smile. I thought about walking up to her, but my gut told me to hold on.

“Brother. Try him, I might,” Cara said.

“I thought you were the girl who had the deal on everything,” Sierra said.

“Maybe I do. Maybe I don’t,” Cara said.

“He’s really friendly,” Frenchy said.

“Wow! I wasn’t thinking of that exact adjective,” Sierra said, nudging Frenchy.

I walked slowly through the crowd. I felt a tug on my arm. I turned around. A young boy had grabbed hold of my wrist. “Can I buy you a coffee or something? You’re probably healthy. Too beautiful to be a coffee head. I mean … if you like coffee. Uh … it doesn’t mean you’re a coffee head,” he said. I laughed. He was very cute—just a little young. He had light brown eyes, long, curly hair, and a nice smile. He was five-foot-10, maybe.

In my mind, there was him and there was Noel.

“I’m Andrew. What’s your name?” he said.

“I’m Milan,” I said.

“What are you doing around here?” he asked.

“First weekend out, right?”

“Oh. I’ve been out since last week. I was here. It wasn’t as packed. You know,” he said.

“Thanks for asking … about the coffee. I just have to get over to my girls. Maybe I’ll see you around, Andrew,” I said.
