Book Excerpt

“We’ll find other hobbies for you,” my mother chimed in, trying to sound encouraging. “Maybe you can take some art or pottery classes or music… You’ve never played an instrument. You might like it.”

          I sat on the edge of the exam table, numb and speechless. Had I heard her right?

          “No,” I said flatly, refusing to look at anyone and staring straight ahead at the door. I needed to get out of there. “A hobby? A hobby? Are you serious? Running is not a hobby! Running is a part of who I am. You have no idea. None of you do. I need to go. Now.”

          I pushed myself off the table but misjudged my usual sense of balance. Instead of landing firmly on my feet, I stumbled forward, practically landing in Dr. Rogers’s lap. Catching me by the shoulders, he held on with firm hands to steady me.

          “There now,” he said. “Are you okay?”

          The room began spinning and my ears were ringing. Were my parents talking? Their words sounded muffled and far away. Oh, God. Not again, I thought. I closed my eyes and took a few deep breaths in an attempt to regain control over my out-of-control physical reactions. Please don’t pass out. Please don’t pass out, I silently coached myself.

          It seemed that my efforts were futile though. My stupid heart made it perfectly clear that it was now in control of my life and I no longer had a say in what I got to do.

          Please don’t pass out, I thought once more, but it was no use. The only thing I can say I was grateful for was the fact that Dr. Rogers still had a firm hold on me when I fainted.

Life—the existence of truly living—doesn’t begin until you close the door on the past.

My post-high school goals had been right on track—literally. But when the doctors said that I could no longer run, I was faced with two choices—give up or change direction.

Unexpectedly, singing became my new passion—a passion fueled by the most gorgeous guy I had ever met.

I can’t say that I believe in love at first sight, but after meeting Gavin, I can now say with certainty that I believe in recognition at first meeting.

He was unquestionably my soul mate.

Book Excerpt

Cory hesitated so long, Mac wondered if she’d tell the truth or fabricate some tale. He knew the Bel Tesoro legend like the back of his hand, having heard the tale numerous times over the years of his friendship with Blue. Usually when Blue got good and drunk — and homesick for his little sister.

Blue thought the sun rose and set just for Cory and had always said the worst part of the Black Ops work they did wasn’t the danger, but leaving her behind. He’d felt forced to cast her out of his life for her own safety, settling for a half-dozen covert trips back to town to check on her. Mac had always come along — and regretted it afterward, for he could never get the little spitfire out of his mind.

She stared at him briefly as she slowed for an approaching curve. His heart hammered out a couple beats. Had she recognized him? She returned her gaze to the road, and he blew out a silent sigh of relief.

He decided to prod. “So what about the beautiful treasure. If it wasn’t the lake…”

He watched her shoulders go back, and she took a deep breath.

Here we go.

“Brock expanded to ten cabins with the extra business, but Benny and Salvatore didn’t come back for a while due to run-ins with the law back in New York.”

“What sort of run-ins?” he dutifully asked.

Cory smiled then, and Mac felt a wave a relief knowing she trusted him with the truth. He could’ve dug up the legend from anyone in town, but it meant more coming from her.

“By that time, Salvatore had changed his name to Charles Luciano — Charles “Lucky” Luciano — and Benjamin went by the nickname of Bugsy. Meyer was always Meyer.”

He hoped the appropriate amount of shock showed in his expression. “You can’t be serious. You mean Bugsy Siegel, Lucky Luciano, and Meyer Lansky?”

“Exactly the same.”

He gave a low whistle.

“Guests wanted to rent Lucky Luciano’s cabin even back then.”

“But that doesn’t explain the treasure.”

She slid him a sultry sideways glance and maneuvered more switchbacks. “Patience, Mac. I’m telling this story.”

He put his head back and hooted with laughter. The smart remark was all Cory. The sexy glance was not.

“So tell it already.”

“Lucky and Bugsy had become too powerful for their mob boss Joe Masseria, and they set up his assassination, so they could steal his rackets. Lucky stole everything in Masseria’s safe and hid the stash from their rival boss Maranzano. Legend has it that Lucky put the stash in a trunk and brought it here on vacation shortly after the assassination to keep it safe.”

“And people think the trunk is buried at Bel Tesoro?” Mac scoffed.

Gabby

I can’t sleep, but it’s not as if I expected to.

My head is filled with a collage of images that cut back and forth between this new Sam and the boy I remember.

The new one is a man — with all the subtle nuances that go along with life experience and the hard knocks required to obtain it. It has changed the way his eyes see the world, and there’s a wariness to him that I never knew before.

Before.

Before we made plans to spend our life together. Before he left here when we were teenagers. Before he married another girl. Before my heart got shattered into too many pieces to ever fit together exactly right again.

I’m aware that at my age this sounds melodramatic and overstated.

But when you’re seventeen and the boy you love moves out of the country with his family, there really aren’t any words to describe that kind of pain.

The night he told me that his family was moving out of the country, I truly thought I would die. We were on a date, what I’d thought to be a normal one, except for the fact that he was quieter than usual. No joking. No smiles. It was July, and we’d gone out on his parents’ boat, found a cove to skinny dip in, and then lay on the bow staring up at the stars.

About the Book

ebookcoverfinalTitle: Why Women Cheat: Confessions of a Pickup Artist

Author: Daniel Gray

Genre: Non-Fiction / Relationships

Why do women keep falling for pickup artists?  I’ve seen it with my own eyes many times.  I’ve witnessed the inner transformation take place right in front of their significant others; unbeknownst to them.  it’s as if I, and people like me, exist in an alternate universe; like the Matrix.

This book is about:

*Lifting the veil of pickup artistry.

*Informing women about the most popular tactics.

*Teaching attached men how to use these tactics on their own women.

In truth, such a subject is difficult to explain in words.  Many guys, including myself, spend thousands of dollars to learn directly from someone who knows.  I attempt to bridge that gap with three anonymous female writers from around the world.  They are informative and entertaining.

After reading this book, women will have a clearer understanding about what motivates them, and men will recognize that unknown thing that has escaped them their entire lives.  Men and women, single or attached will find this book eye opening.

What are you waiting for?  Don’t you want to know why women cheat?

Author Bio

By the time Daniel Gray was 24 years old he had sex less than 30 times.  As a member of the world famous chess team, The Raging Rooks, and a professional chess coach he decided to study the subject of women intensely.

Writing “Why Women Cheat” was part therapy, part confession, and partly to share with others what he thinks is lacking in most relationships.

Though Daniel has had success with women, he has been celibate for the last 3 years.  Hopefully, not for much longer.

Book Excerpt

From the age of two, I took on the identity as the “black sheep”. Soon everyone began to see me that way. I began to act like the “black sheep” too. The trauma I was enduring made me feel like I was crazy. That is how I know about the seduction of negativity. It has a way of compounding to the point of destruction. Unfortunately, I was led on that path for many years before God reintroduced Himself to me. My family had begun to label me as “anxious,” “moody,” and “withdrawn” when I was eight years old.

“Well, there’s my little worry wart!” my father said as he walked past me sitting at the kitchen table in the farmhouse. I felt the familiar veil of shame engulf me. “Worry wart” had become one of my nicknames. I was always worrying about something. There was something horribly wrong with me.

Dad grabbed food out of the refrigerator and sat down at the table. “It’s really nice out. Why don’t you go outside and play?”

“I don’t feel like it,” I said.

“Then go play a game. Keep your mind busy!”

I went to the living room to find a game. I knew I was moping, but I didn’t care. As I was sorting through the games, I heard my mother enter the kitchen.

“Is Joanie outside?” she asked.

“No. She’s looking for a game,” my father answered.

“I wish she would socialize more. She always sticks to herself,” my mother said.

“I know. She worries too much. We have to start pushing her to be more outgoing,” he replied.

As I listened, I thought about how I was happiest when I was alone. I knew no one would hurt me if I was alone. I decided that was how I was always going to be. I had already begun to think of myself as different from other people because of what was happening to me. I had convinced myself I was unlike everyone else and I had to “stick to myself”. Not only to avoid being hurt, but also because I was “damaged goods”. My life was a winding road. I was shown the negative in order to greatly appreciate the positive once I chose to embrace it. That is how the seed of insanity began to wind itself into my mind. My parents didn’t understand. How would anyone ever understand me?

                                                                                                  ~~~~~~
                                                                                                Life Lesson
                              Feeling completely alone with noone to understand is one of the worst feelings in the world. Luckily,
                                                             when I came to know God, I knew I had never been alone.
Author Bio
Diamante Lavendar has been in love with reading since she was a child. She spent many hours listening to her mother read to her when she was young. As she grew older, she enjoyed reading novels of all genres: horror, fantasy and some romance to name a few.
She began writing in college and published some poetry in anthologies over the years. After her kids were older, she wrote as a form of self expression and decided she wanted to share her stories with others.
Most of her writing is very personal and stems from her own experiences and those of her family and friends. She writes to encourage hope and possibility to those who read her stories.
Diamante believes that everyone should try to leave their own positive mark in the world, to make it a better place for all. Writing is the way that she is attempting to leave her mark—one story at a time.
Twenty-year-old widow and cancer survivor Taylor Smith-Taylor is running her late husband’s billion-dollar gaming business because she’s made a vow to keep TME—and Gavin’s memory—alive. WINNER of the 2014 RomCon Reader’s Choice Award
FINALIST in the 2015 EPIC (Electronic Publishing Industry Coalition) eBook Awards
Seven years ago while I was pregnant with my youngest child, my husband was diagnosed with Stage IV melanoma cancer. He went through surgery, chemo and was pronounced cancer-free two weeks before my son Brady was born. I never dealt with those emotions I experienced while he was sick. There wasn’t time. But three years ago when a friend’s daughter was diagnosed with cancer, all of them came flooding back. As a result, I wrote A Taylor-Made Life.
A Taylor-Made Life became an Amazon Bestseller and I’ve received letters from all over the world (e.g.UK, France, Uganda) saying how the story has touched hearts. It has a 4.21 Goodreads average with over 400 ratings and recently won the 2014 RomCon Reader’s Choice Award. The story is a finalist in the 2015 Electroinc Publishing Industy Coalition’s (EPIC) eBook Award. ATML also won several RWA chapter contests. It continues to touch people with its special message.
